The assignment was to create a ‘chillplace’ with the logo of Amsterdam-East intertwined. This is translated into a circular “arena” where all sight-lines are focused on a “paradise beach”.
There are 32 hammocks, every hammock represents a borough (Amsterdam-east consists of 32 boroughs)
The budget was very tight, so we had to keep a close eye on the material and labour cost. Next to this financial side, we wanted to make the project sustainable. The hammocks are fair-trade bought and will be auctioned after the festival, the structure can be completely disassembled and re-used.
The hammocks are secured to a braced wooden structure. This structure is free to adjust, for example with sun-shading or when it is raining canvas.
