Thank you @architects.underground for having us and giving us the opportunity to dive in deeper into the relation between architecture and music, body and soul! I feel we’re getting closer to our final goal: creating a music pavilion with the legendary Dave Okumu!

Architects Underground: “Body and Soul will be our main act of the evening where Julius Taminiau will look at the relationship between music and architecture as he tells the story how he and music producer Dave Okumu (Jessie Ware, Amy Winehouse, Kwabs, Adele, Grace Jones, Tony Allen) created a new music recording space in SE London. We feel lucky to host Julius as his practice has been selected by Wallpaper as “one of the most promising practices of the world” !

Wednesday 25th September (from 6pm) RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London (Jarvis Hall)

Really inspiring to see all the young energetic and visionary startups yesterday and great to see that #startupvillage has become that place where startups/students meet, collaborate, inspire and exchange knowledge. I am convinced a lot of great companies will have their roots at #startupvilage later. Trots op Startup Village Amsterdam Science Park

Mijn idee dat ik in juni 2015 op Science Park heb gepitcht is werkelijkheid geworden en er is zelfs veel meer belangstelling dan we aanvankelijk dachten. Het project is nu al maximaal uitgebouwd en alle plekken zijn verhuurd, een enorm succes dus! Er blijkt dus grote behoefte aan dit soort projecten dat me vertrouwen en zin geeft om weer een nieuw avontuur aan te gaan!

Uniek aan Startup Village is dat het idee, initiatief, ontwerp en de uitwerking is gedaan door Julius Taminiau Architecten. Deze aanpak maakte het mogelijk om met beperkte kosten en in een zeer korte tijd aan een dringende behoefte te beantwoorden en een bijzondere plek in Amsterdam te realiseren.

Dit hadden we (Julius Taminiau Architecten) natuurlijk nooit alleen kunnen doen en wil graag de betrokken personen en partijen op chronologische volgorde bedanken!

“Ik zag in Londen dat er veel werd gewerkt om startups huisvesting te bieden en merkte dat ze in Amsterdam aan een inhaalslag waren begonnen. Mij leek de container de perfecte kantoorruimte voor een startup, ik zag het als een metafoor voor een garage waar vele grote bedrijven als startup zijn begonnen (Apple, Google, Microsoft etc). En als je nou al deze “garages” naast elkaar zet kunnen de startups elkaar inspireren, kennis uitwisselen en samenwerken. Het idee van een startup dorp was geboren. Nu moest ik nog op zoek naar een locatie. Ik ben bij Science Park terecht gekomen via een interview in het Parool met Leo Le Duc waarin hij min of meer zei dat het Science Park een rafelrandje mist. Na het lezen van dit artikel heb ik hem benaderd en bij de eerste afspraak waren Leo Le Duc en Anke Wellecomme (gemeente Amsterdam) al meteen enthousiast. Bij de tweede of derde afspraak zat Erik Boer (nu eigenaar en beheerder) al aan tafel en men werd steeds enthousiaster. Het duurde niet lang of de potentiële huurders meldden zich al snel aan en Erik Boer besloot, in samenwerking met UVA Holding, om te investeren in het project. Het kennismakingsgesprek vond plaats op 24 juni 2015 en de huurders zijn ingetrokken op 1 oktober 2016, het is dus allemaal in een sneltrein vaart gegaan. Door de bottom-up aanpak i.c.m. flexibelere regelgeving voor tijdelijke bouw – en natuurlijk eerder opgebouwde kennis – is het mogelijk geweest om in grofweg een jaar dit voor elkaar te krijgen.”
